The 15th June 2015 marks 800 years since the sometimes maligned King John granted the Magna Carta. It was reissued by a number of subsequent monarchs.
That the Magna Carta is still looked to as the foundation of so luch of the Rule of Law in so many countries, including Australia, is perhaps the greatest proof of the maxim ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ .
That Australia has in its Parliament building one of the few copies of the 1297 version is remarkable in itself.
